Geokosmos to contribute to Gazprom Megaproject

Geokosmos, one of the leading companies in the Russian and CIS topographic and geodetic survey market, has signed a contract with Yamalgasivest, a subsidiary of Gasprom, to carry out geodetic surveys of the Yamal Megaproject. The project stipulates the construction of a gas pipeline with a total length of approximately 4,000 km that will connectrich natural gas deposits on the Yamal peninsula, cross an arm of the Kara Sea and link Western Europe. The 1,200-kilometres-long North European gas pipeline will be placed on the bottom of the Baltic Sea from Vyborg to Greiswald, Germany. Gas transportation is scheduled for 2010. Total investments in the project will exceed four billion dollars.
Geokosmos entered the first stage of the project and started topographical surveying on the Bovanenkovskoye field (Yamal peninsula). The project employs the Aerial Laser Survey technology as well as aerial scanner ALTM 3100, digital camera Rollei, GPS receivers Trimble 5700 and Javad Lexon. The state-of-the art equipment used by Geokosmos specialists will allow to carry out a complex and extensive survey with high accuracy in the shortest possible time. Yamal Megaproject is not the first joint project of Geokosmos with Gasprom. Starting from 2001 Geokosmos has been closely collaborating with one of the largest Russian companies and participates in many projects that involve geoinformatics. However, Geokosmos pays special attention to Yamal Megaproject since this project is crucial not only for Gasprom but also for Russia and Europe. The pipeline from Yamal to the German border will act as an additional route for the supply of natural gas to the steadily growing European market and will allow to cover 37% deficit in natural gas that Europe is experiencing nowadays.
